National Service Project: Autism Speaks

Your Area VI Officers would like to inform the members of HOSA that our National Service Project this year is, once again, Autism Speaks. Autism is a brain disorder that's associated with a range of developmental problems, mainly in communication and social interaction.  Did you know 1 in 150 children is diagnosed with autism, yet autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases? We encourage all local chapters to please help raise money and turn it in at Fall Leadership registration so Area 6 will be known for making a difference. Whether it’s donation cups or going door to door, any amount of money will help these children. This is our last year to help this great organization, so start your fundraising efforts as soon as possible. We would love to present the Autism Foundation with a sizeable check to help such a great cause. The Area officers will recognize the chapter that raises the most money. They will receive special recognition at the Fall Leadership Conference and receive a prize for their local chapter. If you would like to learn more about autism and to find a walk in your area, visit http://www.autismspeaks.org/ . I would like to personally encourage all of you to find a local autism walk in your area to help. I hope to see every school get involved as we show just how hard working Area VI truly is. Lets all work together to truly make a difference.
